​HyFlow aims to develop a sustainable hybrid storage system based on high power vanadium redox flow battery and supercapacitor technology. This European research project has eleven partners from Germany, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Austria, Portugal and Russia that work together under the coordination of Landshut University of Applied Sciences. HyFlow is being funded by the EU until 2023 with EUR 4M. C2C-NewCap role is to develop a high voltage module for the demonstrator, and, in collaboration with University of Bologna, to develop sustainable activated carbon from EU based precursors, and to study ways to increase the voltage window with aqueous electrolyte.

Baterias 2030 Mobiliser Programme is a strategic national R&D project that addresses the challenges related to the decarbonisation and dissemination of sustainable energy communities, in particular the development of next-generation batteries. Several key partners are involved: University of Lisbon, University of Porto, EFACEC, Visblue, DSTsolar, INL, C2C-NewCap, among others. The main objectives are to develop fundamental research on energy storage devices and to bring innovation municipalities, with a demonstrator to be built by 2023. C2C-NewCap is responsible for the integration of the supercapacitor module.

Vasco da Gama CoLAB is the first Portuguese association aiming to merge key Portuguese energy storage players from academia (Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Porto), corporate (EDP and Efacec) and start-ups (Visblue and C2C-NewCap). The goal of Vasco da Gama CoLAB is to forge new synergies to tackle critical society challenges in the energy sector, namely energy harvesting from renewable sources, smart grids, wind power, photovoltaics and transportation.

C2C-NewCap has been granted the SME Phase 2 H2020 project, HYCAP, after successfully completing Phase 1. The project focuses on market entry and scaling up the GO-START supercapacitor module production into a pilot line. The main goal is to develop a simple to install supercapacitor module to replace lead-acid batteries for heavy vehicles.

Along with 5 other EU Universities, Pegasus ultimate goal is to create a highly efficient, catalyst-free novel plasma method along with a proof-of-concept PEGASUS device for a large-scale N-graphene direct synthesis and showcase supercapacitor cells. The synergy between plasma physics and mechanical, electrochemical and hi-tech engineering expertise will be the driving force boosting the innovative approach pursued by this project, spanning from fundamental knowledge to application prospects. C2C-NewCap role is mainly related with the use of these novel materials for energy storage applications.

The Repsol Foundation aims to support innovative start-ups that work in energy related solutions, new mobility and circular economy, contributing to a more sustainable energetic transition. C2C-NewCap participated in their startup accelerator program from 2017 to 2019 to help increase the TRL of the supercapacitors from lab prototype to pilot testing.

Starting in March 2018, C2C-NewCap participated in a demonstration project, financed through Portugal 2020 to develop the supercapacitor prototype to be tested by potential customers. This project culminated with a public demonstration of the use of the technology in a heavy vehicle.
